A Manchester businessman has been slapped with a murder charge after police say he was one of two men who posed as law enforcers before gunning down a construction worker inside his home in Newport.

He is 27-year-old Ceejay Wilson, of the Old England district in Manchester.

The incident occurred on Sunday, February 1, and resulted in the shooting death of 33-year-old David Brown, otherwise called 'Ratty', a construction worker of Ellen Street.

Reports from the Mandeville police are that about 1:40 a.m., Brown was at home when banging was heard at his door and men identifying themselves as police requested entry.

According to the police, Brown opened the door, and two armed men posing as police officers entered the premises, assaulted him, and opened fire, killing him before escaping on foot.

The police were summoned, and upon arrival, Brown was seen lying on his back with gunshot wounds to the face and neck.

An investigation was launched, and Wilson was later identified by witnesses as one of the two men involved in the incident.

He was subsequently charged on Tuesday, February 10.

His court date is being finalised.
