Shaneil Muir, Skeng assist needy residents
Following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa on Jamaica, Showtime Services Management has confirmed that international dancehall superstars Skeng and Shaneil Muir have personally undertaken a significant charitable mission in the rural areas of Trelawny and St James.
Showcasing a unified commitment to help rebuild the island, the labelmates joined a motorcade following a truckload of essential goods and travelled to several hard-hit, remote areas to hand out packages containing vital supplies. Muir, visibly moved by the devastation, spent time speaking directly with residents in the hard-hit areas. She expressed being brought to tears by what she described as "damaged yet strong people". To immediately address the urgent need for hydration, Muir personally ordered and contributed 150 cases of bottled water to the motorcade, supplementing the truckload of goods being distributed. Skeng, demonstrating a dedication to community support, provided aid in packages that included diapers, non-perishable food items, hygiene products, two-burner stoves, gas cans, flashlights, and power banks - all crucial items for families navigating the ongoing aftermath and power outages.
The collaboration underscores the shared humanity that guides both artistes, regardless of their public status. Manager for both artistes, Cara Burke confirmed their dedication goes beyond charitable action.
"Shaneil and Skeng are working to make a significant difference in rebuilding what and where they can," Burke stated.
With Skeng being known for his charitable nature, often in contrast to his hard-edged stage persona, Burke praised the artiste's commitment to genuine philanthropy.
"I'm proud of him," said Burke. "He used his own initiative, no media, no camera, no clout chasing. This was purely from the heart for his people."
Burke also revealed that the intensity of the hurricane has inspired Muir's next musical project. The singer, who was in Montego Bay when the Category 5 hurricane that ravaged the island, has channelled the emotional experience into new music, which was written immediately after her firsthand experience with Hurricane Melissa.
This is just the beginning of a sustained effort, as the initiative has already garnered attention and support from peers and industry friends. Burke confirmed that friends including Nicki Minaj and others who plan to come on board, have already added to the give-back campaign.
